Every order plants a tree.
A songbird that almost disappeared
The Kirtland's warbler is a small gray-and-yellow songbird that nests almost only in young jack pine forests in northern Michigan. By 1974, only 167 nesting pairs were left in the world.
Brought back, one tree at a time
Wildfires used to renew these forests. Without them, people stepped in and replanted jack pine across the region. It worked. In 2019 the Kirtland's warbler was removed from the endangered species list. Today more than 2,000 pairs return to Michigan each spring.
Where your order comes in
The work isn't finished. The warbler only nests in young pines, so the forest has to keep being replanted. Michigan plants about 1.5 million jack pine seedlings every year.
For every Faded Lore order, we fund one tree planted in Michigan's forests through the Arbor Day Foundation's reforestation program.
Why it matters to us
Faded Lore is about old stories worth keeping. A little bird that came back from the edge is one of the best we know.
